Slip Resistant Flooring Business Grows by 10%
As public facilities continue to focus on safety, PEM Surface Creations, a leader in premium slip-resistant flooring, has seen its business grow in both products and annual earnings. The St. Louis-based company is celebrating a 10% growth in revenue for 2013, making its 16th year in business its most successful to date.
PEM’s slip resistant flooring provides a textured surface that reduces slippage in areas with high foot traffic, along with a soft construction that offers padding and comfort to barefoot traffic. As of December 2013, more than 100 companies distribute PEM’s non-skid matting, with thousands of applications spanning the globe.
“When my dad and I started PEM, our attention was mainly focused on the golf industry due to the introduction of the spikeless golf shoe,” said Rob Amelung, vice president of PEM Surface Creations. “As time went on, we began to notice that there was a real opportunity to break into other markets. Organizations were looking to take a proactive approach to safety and our products fit the bill perfectly.”
The flooring is now a common sight in an array of industries including golf courses, aquatic facilities, marinas, playgrounds, yoga studios, dog kennels and equestrian centers. Its non-skid matting has also been featured at numerous high profile events including the London Marathon, the US Olympics Swimming Trails, multiple PGA and Ryder Cup Golf Events and many more.
According to Amelung, the best is still yet to come. “We believe there are still several industries out there that could greatly benefit from our products,” said Amelung. “In an effort to expose the PEM brand to a whole new crop of organizations, we have expanded our network of dealers, making PEM more readily available—regardless of your location.”
PEM Surface Creations is owned and operated by the father son team of Bob and Rob Amelung of south St. Louis County.
About PEM Surface Creations
St. Louis-based PEM Surface Creations provides slip-resistant flooring, and was founded in 1997 in response to golf courses nationwide requiring spikeless golf shoes, which created a greater risk of slip and fall injuries on courses. Today, more than 2,000 golf courses use the matting and applications have evolved to use in aquatic facilities, marinas, playgrounds, equestrian centers, park and recreation facilities, fitness centers and dog kennels, among many others. The product has global reach and the company has over 50 distributors worldwide.
