PEM Surface Creations Provides Comfort and Safety for Olympic Trial Swimmers

PEM Surface Creations matting was recently featured at the 2016 US Olympic Teams Trials for swimming events in Omaha, Neb.

ST. LOUIS, MO (August 2016) - PEM Surface Creations (PEM), an international supplier of porous, slip-resistant flooring, was featured this month at the 2016 US Olympic Team Trials for swimming events in Omaha, Neb.

PEM Aquatic matting has long been favored by USA swimming for its safety benefits, aesthetic appeal and comfortable feel for swimmers. The unique porous construction provides improved grip and allows water to drain and dry quickly, eliminating standing water on the pool deck. In addition to reducing the risk of fall-related injuries around the pool, PEM’s poly extruded construction provides a comfortable surface for bare feet, making it popular among swimmers as well.

PEM Aquatic matting was first used at the Olympic Trials for swimming events in 2004, where USA Swimming hosted the event in Long Beach, Calif.

USA Swimming officials were searching for a matting that would provide a safe, slip-resistant surface for athletes, and also look attractive on TV. Of all the surfaces that were considered, only PEM Aquatic matting met the requirements of the event organizers.

“PEM surfaces are the only product I have considered in hosting world-class swimming competitions,” said Harold Cliff, COO of 2016 Olympic Swim Trials. “The product looks super on TV, and is very manageable to install. Never have had an issue on quality, or product delivery, as [PEM] fully understands the needs of the event.”

Since 2004, USA Swimming has exclusively used PEM Aquatic matting for Olympic Trials swimming events and organizers have been delighted with the results.

“PEM Aquatic Matting has been the perfect slip resistant solution for USA Swimming events. The matting has furthered our brand image and increased on-air visual appeal, all while protecting our world-class athletes. No other surface cover could match PEM’s combination of design features, safety benefits and durability,” said Dean Ekeren, Events and Marketing Director for USA Swimming.
