While our flooring currently blankets a wide array of industries including golf courses and aquatic facilities, there are several industries out there that could be benefiting from our slip-resistant flooring. What are we currently thinking about? Three words: triathlon transition mats.

All participants in a triathlon must compete in three main phases: swimming, biking and running. When the triathlete is changing from water to land, they must first go through what is called a triathlon transition area. While in this zone, which is normally a few hundred meters, the tri-athlete must walk or run alongside their bike. Typically, the area of the transition area is covered in either plywood or wet towels, presenting a slippery surface for both the triathlete and triathlon workers.

Also, because the triathlete is coming straight out of the water, their barefeet are normally covered in sand or mud. As the muck is tracked onto the surface of the transition area, two potential hazards are formed: slippage and cuts to the feet. Once event organizers begin to hose down the feet of the triathletes the area can become very slick, leaving the least experienced participants at the greatest risk of injury.

Are you a triathlon organizer? If so, you better keep reading…

In lieu of overly saturated carpet or plywood, we suggest installing some of our PEM high traffic slip-resistant matting. Because our matting is permeable in nature, it allows for water to drain through the surface, reducing the risk of puddles forming. In addition, our textured surface would provide superior comfort to the athletes’ barefeet.

Below you will find a side-by-side comparison of the standard surface and our PEM slip-resistant matting.

As you can see, PEM matting would be a welcome addition to any triathlon transition area. Its superior aesthetics allows our matting to blend into any setting—regardless of race’s theme. Because these areas tend to see high levels of foot traffic, we suggested that they go with our high friction golf course matting. Not only can this particular application hold up over time, it can greatly reduce the risk of slips and falls.

The additional slip-resistant properties of the high friction grit coating have enhanced the overall surface of the bridge, providing peace of mind for both course employees and customers.

Last month, Golf Digest released their list of America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses. We were extremely excited to see that our PEM Golf Matting was installed at 28 of the Top 100 listed courses. Guess what? The news just keeps on getting better and better!

Recently, Golf Digest released a list of America’s Top Public Golf Courses. As you might know, the PEM headquarters is located in St. Louis, Missouri. Six of the courses to make the list were based right here in St. Louis. In fact, four of the 6 courses have—you guessed it—our slip-resistant matting!

If you happen to live in the St. Louis area or you simply appreciate beautiful greens, here are the four courses where you can find PEM Golf Matting.

Golf Course #1 & 2 – This stunning St. Louis staple has served as the home for several historical PGA Championships. From Gary Player’s big U.S. Open victory in 1965 to the 2008 BMW Championship—this course has seen it all.

Golf Course #3 – Our PEM Golf Matting can be found at both 18-hole courses. This award winning course was selected to host the U.S. Open Men’s Regional Qualifier in June 2010.

Golf Course #4 – Many golf enthusiasts consider the greens at this family-oriented club to be the best of the best in the STL. In fact, in 2010 it was named the #1 Country Club & Golf Course in Saint Louis by Ladue News.

As St. Louisans, and, of course, avid golfers, it truly delights us to know that there are so many great courses in and around the St. Louis area! We’ve been providing top notch, slip-resistant matting to America’s greatest courses for over 15 years.

So you are now the proud owner of PEM slip-resistant matting. Congrats! We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome you to our family. If you properly maintain your matting, it could—depending on the application—last nearly a decade. If you truly want your matting to stand up against the test of time, we suggest following our 3 trusty tips. What are they, you ask? Let us explain…

#1 Leaf blowing: While our slip-resistant matting is quite sturdy, we do not recommend using a rake to remove leaves or debris from the surface of your matting. Over time the metal teeth will begin to weaken the surface of your matting, increasing the chances of rips and tears. In short, use your best judgment before using a yard tool to clean your matting.

#2 Power wash: Wait! Before you go all Tony Montana on your pool deck matting, golf matting, kennel matting, and/or yoga matting we ask that you take a step back and… breathe. We are not suggesting that you turn your power washer on full blast to see if you can change the color of your matting. Our matting should be cleaned using the low pressure setting. Not only is this more than enough pressure to clean your surface, it will not harm your matting.

#3 Right matting, right surface: One of the best ways to ensure that your slip-resistant matting remains in tip top shape is to make sure the matting you purchase is truly suitable for your application. For example: don’t purchase lightweight matting for high traffic areas. Yes, it will suffice in the short term, but it will wear quickly.

Do you remember your playground days? Monkey bar races, freeze tag, and a rousing game of red rover—the playground was the only place where we could, well, be a kid. Unfortunately, our days on the jungle gym weren’t always a barrel of monkeys. From scraped knees to bruised elbows—we kept our school nurses on their toes.

While playground safety has come a long way since our childhood, many of the common injuries that plagued our generation still exist today. In fact, nearly 70% of all playground injuries are related to simple falls to the surface. Fortunately this dilemma can be solved with two words: slip-resistant matting!

When our PEM slip-resistant playground matting is applied over the existing poly-green foam, a tough, slip-free surface is formed. The new surface will not only reduce the risk of injuries due to falls, but will allow for a more wheelchair friendly environment.

Aside from the safety enhancements, the slip-resistant flooring is also easy to clean. Simply hose down or sweep with a broom, whichever you see fit. Because all of our matting is permeable in nature, water will easily drain, thus greatly reducing the chances of mildew or bacteria forming.

We know what you might be thinking: “something this rife with innovation probably costs a pretty penny, huh?” Actually, our high traffic matting is not only affordable, it has been known—when properly maintained—to withstand even the toughest conditions. For a detailed pricing guide or list of our available applications, please visit us online at pemsurface.com.

Why do so many prestigious courses choose PEM golf matting? Well, we might be biased, but there are a number of reasons!

Superior Protection – The last thing a golf course manager wants is a player being hurt on his or her course. Our matting has a textured surface to reduce the risk of slips and falls. Plus, we offer a high-grit coating for the ultimate protection.

Easy Installation – Our matting is easy to install. It’s delivered in rolls for easy transport and can be trimmed with a razor knife, ensuring you achieve a custom fit for your course application.

Looks Great – Our golf matting is available in 6 colors, including black, grey, blue, chocolate brown, sand and hunter green. It’s easy to clean with a quick sweeping or washing down with a hose. Need a custom color for your club? We can help!

Long Lasting – PEM slip-resistant matting will last for season after season. We hear from our customers years after purchase, and they all rave about how great their matting looks. An investment in PEM now will protect your course for years to come.

We could go on, but we get it – we’re golfers too. You’d rather be outside on the course! We’ve been providing top quality, slip-resistant matting to America’s greatest courses for over 15 years.

If you’ve ever installed the typical black rubber horse stall mats, you know what a bear of a task that can be! They’re heavy, bulky and nearly impossible to maneuver with one person. Plus – they’re terribly difficult to get a custom fit if your stall has any odd angles, uneven dimensions or protruding objects like a floor-mounted automatic-waterer.

PEM Surface Horse Stall Matting

PEM B.E.S.T.™ Matting is the perfect solution for the modern horse owner. B.E.S.T. or Bio Equestrian Stable Technology is a revolutionary approach to providing a soft, dry stall environment for your horse. Our B.E.S.T.™ Mats will keep your horse comfortable and content in the barn.

From the moment they arrive, you’ll have a new-found love for our matting. They are lightweight and easy to maneuver. Our mats are delivered as rolls, meaning you can easily carry or cart them to a stall. You can easily trim the resilient material with a sharp blade, allowing for a custom fit. Two pieces of matting will cover your stall and a seam protector is included to join the two mat pieces together. No more sliding stall mats that trap shavings and manure underneath! Cover your stall base, wall to wall, and reduce bedding waste.

Your horse will also benefit from B.E.S.T.™ Matting’s porous construction, allowing moisture to flow through and keeping bedding dry. It’s important to maintain a dry environment for the overall health of your horse. Many animals will develop hoof and health problems, such as Thrush, when exposed to a wet environment.

If you frequently travel to shows with your horse, you know how important it is to provide a cushiony surface for standing in confined spaces for long periods of time. Our soft, resilient material reduces leg, knee and hoof fatigue, allowing your horse to perform to the best of its ability. Plus, the rolls of matting are perfect for easy transportation and installation! Use them show after show to keep your horse happy and healthy!

As most of the country falls victim to plummeting temps and icy conditions, it’s not surprising to see a rise in slips and falls! There’s one environment that’s particularly susceptible to freezing conditions – marinas and docks in the winter months.

While many boat owners will winterize their vessels and avoid the blustery, wet conditions, there are still several individuals that access their watercraft in the winter months. From facility managers and maintenance crews to die-hard boating enthusiasts, it’s inevitable that someone will be walking the planks.

PEM Marine Matting is the perfect solution for slippery, wet conditions in the winter months. The matting’s porous construction allows water to pass through, lessening the chances of standing water creating frozen ice patches. Unlike other mats, our matting will not absorb and hold water – a vital benefit for the winter months! Plus, it’s lightweight and installs easily. No more lugging around heavy mats and fumbling with installation. PEM Marine matting can be trimmed easily with a razor to custom fit your facility.
