PEM® Surface Creations Offers Slip Resistant Flooring For Safety and Comfort
Used worldwide by golf courses, aquatic facilities, playgrounds to reduce slippage, provide padding
Nov. 10, 2009: ST. LOUIS, Mo. –PEM® Surface Creations, a leader in premium slip resistant matting, provides unique solutions for safety and comfort to golf courses, aquatic facilities, marinas, playgrounds and equestrian centers. PEM’s slip resistant flooring provides a textured surface that reduces slippage in high traffic areas, along with a soft construction that provides padding on points of harmful contact and comfort to barefoot traffic.
Using a poly extruded matting (PEM) made from virgin raw thermal plastics, the matting is designed with a porous looping construction that creates a durable and soft textured surface. The porous construction allows moisture to flow through or evaporate to eliminate standing water and reduce algae growth. The matting is resistant to environmental and chemical degradation, extreme heat and wind uplift making it highly durable, and applicable to many industries.
“We started PEM in 1997 when golf courses began requiring spikeless golf shoes, and golf course superintendents were eagerly searching for ways to reduce the risk of golfer slippage on bridges, steps and walkways,” said Bob Amelung, president and founder of PEM. “Our PEM surfacing was just the solution they needed, and since that time has led us to similar success in many other applications. Many organizations are taking a proactive and preventive approach to safety measures, and not waiting for an injury, but reducing the risk.”
Today, the PEM slip-resistant flooring is used by more than 2,000 golf courses nationwide, and applications on major cruise lines, marinas, athletic fields, aquatic parks, military bases, park and recreation facilities, campgrounds, hotels, resorts, hospitals, rehabilitation centers, equestrian centers, high schools, colleges and universities, playgrounds and major theme parks.
From simple, single applications at a local golf course to major sporting events, PEM Surface Creations is a premium choice in slip resistant flooring. PEM surfacing was the featured flooring in the FINA World Aquatic Championships in Montreal, the PGA Championship in Medinah, Ill., the Ryder Cup in Louisville, Ky., the U.S. Olympic Swimming Team Trials in Omaha, Neb., and even on a Disney Cruise Ship.
The material contains an antimicrobial biocide that guards against the growth of mildew, fungi and bacteria. The matting is easy to install and cleans easily providing low maintenance. The slip resistant flooring is produced in two thicknesses and various colors to meet the requirements of a specific application.
